Global Ska Convention
Welcome to the site of the Global Ska Convention. This page has been put up to inform everyone about the dream of the Global Ska Convention and to help raise the money to start it. You can now help by donating any amount of money through paypal. I have started off the collection with $50 of my own and will add more whenever I can. Will you help out too? The collection goal is $20,000 for the festival. I will update this site from time to time with the updated donation totals and a list of those who donated.
The Dream
The GSC is the dream of SkaFreaks.com creator Chris Ryan. The idea is to have a 2-3 day festival of ska and camping at a very low affordable price. The festival would consist of 2 stages, 30+ global ska bands playing during 20-30 hours of non-stop music, all bands invited to sell merchandise and hang with the fans, tons of vendors, SkaFreaks radio streaming across the festival grounds, and much much much more.
The Stages
The stages would consist of two large stages to house all the bands. They would be with 100 feet of each other so when one band was down playing you turn and take a few steps and hear the next band playing in minutes.
Non-Stop Music
The non-stop music setup would come together with the two stages being so close. While one band is playing the other stage is being setup for the next band. Band one ends their set and band two starts theirs within minutes.
30+ Bands
With an ideal lineup of bands the convention would have 16 bands playing each day making a total of 32. The time lineup would be as follows.
11:00-11:20
11:20-11:40
11:40-12:00
12:00-12:30
12:30-1:00
1:00-1:30
1:30-2:00
2:00-2:45
2:45-3:30
3:30-4:15
4:15-5:00
5:00-6:45
6:45-7:45
7:45-8:45
8:45-9:00
9:00-10:30
10:30-11:00 (extra cushion time)
All Bands Invited
The convention would lay out the welcome mat to any and all ska bands that wish to come. Even if a band is not playing a set at the show that doesn't mean they shouldn't be welcome. So at the convention, we will set up an area called Bands Alley that will house all the bands (playing or not) and will allow them to sell their merch and hang out with the fans. If a band wants to sell their merch but can't make it to the show, no problem. The band just sends up the merch and a price listing and we have one large tent to sell all this merch and the official GSC merch. We keep 5% of what was sold to help pay for the workers at that tent, and anything that wasn't sold we send back.
SkaFreaks Radio
SkaFreaks Radio runs 24/7 over the internet from SkaFreaks.com. The station plays ska and some reggae, rocksteady, and bluebeat music. The station would be pumped into the convention grounds via te internet and then broadcast to radios using a fm transmitter. This way everyone with a radio can listen to ska all day and all night.
